Who We Are
MMCC was founded in 2008 as a 501(c)(3) offering the Lowcountry pro bono and low bono mediation services.
From 2008 to 2019, MMCC provided mediation services using a membership services model where mediators provided services directly to clients. The current President, Jill E.M. HaLevi, is one of the two original founders. The founders were inspired to find a way for low-income families to meet the state-wide family mediation mandate.
In late 2020, Mediation and Meeting Center of Charleston (MMCC) embarked on an exciting transformation project to be of greater service to the Charleston area and broader regional community. For 2021/22 and BEYOND: MMCC redefined its mission to focus on directly providing pro bono and low bono services while engaging more mediators from the Charleston area to participate in the organization’s activities.
To provide the best possible combination of service to the public and to mediators in the community, the new structure reflects the following sets of values for both the community at large and professional mediation community:
Value to the Community:
- Access to affordable, quality mediation services for qualifying litigants
- A way to meet mandatory mediation requirements for litigants in need of pro bono or low bono services
- A place to go to resolve disputes outside the court system
- Access to trained volunteer mediators who meet a high level of professional standards
- Community education and exposure to the benefits of mediation
Value to Professional Mediators:
- Promoting the mediation profession to all sectors of the community
- Networking with other mediators to improve services to the community
- Mentoring opportunities for both new and experienced mediators
To position itself for the future, the new MMCC vision and mission enables a Unique Value Proposition: Offering affordable mediation services to resolve conflict while growing an experienced pool of mediators to serve the community.
The Mediation and Meeting Center of Charleston (MMCC) is a non-profit serving low-income families, the court system, neighborhoods and communities in the Lowcountry.
